One Last Outing for Flowers

A couple of weekends ago my husband, visiting in-laws and I all went on a trip to the Denver Botanic Gardens to see some flowers one last time before fall is here to stay. We were blessed with beautiful weather that day and were able to sit among the many little nooks and corners in the garden admiring the pretty flowers. We were even able to eat some fresh grapes growing along the vines, not sure if we were really supposed to, but they were delicious and oh so sweet! We snacked on them until our fingers were too sticky to reach for more.

I was able to photograph some beautiful flowers that were still all in bloom in the garden and have them shared below. Honestly, I could of stayed there all day, it was so pretty. The entire garden is pretty large with many different gardens including a Monet water lily garden and several Asian/Japanese inspired gardens. I would love to return again in October to see more of the fall colors changing all through out the garden and share some fall photography, now that I actually get to live in a place that has a real autumn. I'm so excited for my first fall in the city and in the Colorado Mountains.

P.S. If you like some of these, there are couple now available in my Etsy shop. Just click on the link to the right. If there is any that you are particularly interested but do not see on Etsy, just leave me a message and I will make one just for you! Hope you enjoyed and thank-you as always for stopping bye.

Weekend Adventures

It's been a bit of time since my last post, but today I wanted to post some pictures of some small day trips that Travis and I have been adventuring on around our new home. Colorado is amazingly beautiful and I feel like I can never snap enough photographs where-ever we go. My camera is always clicking and I'm constantly telling Travis "Hold on, I want to take a picture" and away I go running into a field or up a hill to take a photo. Travis is so patient and usually waits for me, with Cleo, until I'm satisfied. I don't think I've ever heard him complain once when I make us wait in the rain for 10 minutes just so I can get the "perfect shot," which is something I did quite a bit during our day trip to Breckenridge a couple of weeks ago.

The photographs below are first of seven falls, which is near Colorado Springs, where we hiked to the top of water falls up I think 500 stairs! We also hiked around and fed the little chipmunks which will come right up to you begging for food. They are so cute! The next set are of Breckenridge, a very cute skiing town, which Travis and I are thinking may be our next home. :) Both of these places are about 2 hours from our apartment, so they made nice little day trips. I can't wait to explore more as our life here in Colorado is just beginning.

Select images and photographs will also be available on Etsy soon. And if you ever want something custom ordered feel free to e-mail me at heathergauthier02@gmail.com. I can put any image on canvas of almost any size and I can always print them any size photographic fine-art paper for framing as well.

Oh! I almost forgot to mention that continue to come back and check out the blog, Travis is making me a whole new design that I can't wait to share once it's all programmed. And there may even be a place where you can buy prints right from the site ;)

Bike ride by the River

There is a river, the Platte River,  near my apartment (about 3/4 of a mile walk or bike ride) that has a bike/walk path. Whenever I come here it doesn't feel as though I'm even in the city. It's so pretty and you can take this path to another creek that you can probably walk along for even longer. I love how downtown Denver has all these walking/biking trails that you can go on that make you feel like you've escaped the city without even leaving the city. Anyways, I wanted to share some photographs of some of the pretty flowers that grow along the river's edge that I snapped during a bike ride the other day. Oh, and did you know it's illegal to pick any wildflower here in the state of Colorado? Had NO idea! No wonder people were giving us funny looks the last hike we went on. I had picked some wildflowers to put on my table....well, I won't be doing that again.

The next one is of Elitch gardens, the amusement park here in downtown, that you can also see along the river's edge.

Hope you liked! I'm also going to be opening an Etsy shop soon to sell some of the photographs as prints...so when that's all up and ready to go, I'll let you know, and maybe if you like them enough you'll want some on your wall too. ;) Thanks for visiting!!!

Hiking adventures

I wanted to share some of my photography from a couple of hikes Travis, Cleo, and I have done since being up here in Colorado. It's been really nice to drive to the mountains on the weekend and see some beautiful scenery! I love being able to get out of the city so easily to go and get some fresh mountain air. It really helps to silence my brain....which is something that is not easily done, but much needed!
These photographs were taken from two hiking trails during the last two weeks. One of the trails is called Cerean St. Vrain trail, which followed a beautiful little creek for about 2 miles in. Before you actually reach the trailhead, however, you are blessed with these amazing mountain and valley views as seen above and below. Below are also some photographs of the creek that we hike along as well.

And of course there were beautiful little wild flowers everywhere that we picked and put on our kitchen table at home. I couldn't help myself....I just love flowers!

The next weekend we were planning on going on a hike to Brainard Lake near Boulder, but when we arrived it was so crowded! The park rangers had us wait on the road until groups left the parking lot so that they could make sure there was enough room for every car going in. Well, there was about 8 cars in front of us when we arrived and after talking to the park ranger who said there was at least 380 people on the trail at that moment my husband decided that did not sound relaxing or fun at all. So he pulled the car around and was out of there before I could even say a word. :) He tends to not like crowds at all! As we were driving back down the mountain we ended up seeing a little sign that said Rainbow Lakes trail with an arrow pointing right. So instead of continuing our trip home we went down this little dirt, extremely rocky and bumpy road, for about 4 miles in our little Toyota Corolla. I was very proud of our car to say the least. It ended up being a 30 minute drive to travel maybe, at most, 4 miles. But we made it and it was well worth the trip. Upon arriving at the trail head we were able to see glaciers and even more spectacular mountain views!

Along the trail, about 1.5 miles in, you come across the first of a series of 4 lakes along the hike. The water is crystal clear with mountains and clouds reflecting above. To me, it really looks like heaven and this is when I kept saying to myself "I can't believe I get to live here." It makes me almost feel like I'm on vacation when I see these mountains. Someone on the hike also told us that these mountains were the continental divide and that we were about 10,000 ft up. Well, I knew we were high cause I could feel myself breathing much harder than usual when walking as well. Anyways, here are some photographs on the lakes along the hike below.

And here are some wildflower photographs from that hike as well....

Hope you enjoyed!

Settling in....one month later

It's been one month since my husband and I moved to Colorado and I finally feel all settled into our new apartment. It's on the 10th floor and overlooks downtown Denver with a beautiful view of the clock tower, which has lights shining on it that change colors with the months. Right now they are shining Red, White, and Blue for the 4th of July...but in May it was all Pink! My fav!!

Even though I'm all settled in, sort of, I would be lying if I said that I wasn't homesick. It's the little things I miss. I miss my little grocery store 5 minutes away from my house, not that there are not great markets here...it's just a bit more difficult when you live downtown. I miss having a quiet night where I don't hear all the cars and random crazy people on street :). I miss having craft stores nearby...so far I haven't found any in downtown Denver. I guess people don't really do many crafts here, too many things to do outdoors to keep you busy I'm guessing. But most of all I miss my coffee dates with all my girl friends back home and my family. I miss spending my entire Saturday morning with my best friend just having coffee and talking about anything and everything. And I miss my Sunday night dinners with my Dad where my crazy little dog would play with his dog....the only other dog she gets along with. Now she barks at every dog we see.

Although I feel homesick, I have tried my hardest to make our little apartment feel like home. I'm cooking more...cause the smells of homemade food always makes me feel more at home. I'm trying to do little things and make more of a schedule for myself to make it feel more like home and hopefully soon I will make more friends to have more coffee dates.

I'm not trying to feel sorry for myself or anything. Believe me, I feel so blessed and happy for this move. Everyday is a new and wonderful adventure and I can't believe God has made all my dreams come true. It truly is amazing and feel extremely blessed. And I'm sure in time...I will have more coffee dates again. It just takes time to settle in. In the mean time...here are some photos of our place. Hope you think it's cute :)
